The author of all these wood and stone carvings is Christo Yakimov, who is using the play of entangled roots and branches, natural stone formations, shaped by the water and the wind, touched by the storms of time.
Wood carving, small sculpture, pyrography – all these works are inspired by the wild nature and have kept the light and clear natural spirit, as well as their original form. This form reflects the character of the surroundings of the small town of Shipka, founded at the edge of the Balkan range 630 years ago and famous with epic battles for freedom.

The one who crosses the Shipka pass, will inevitably be fascinated by the magnifiscent domes of the monument-sanctuary “Nativity”, dedicated to the ones who lost their lives in the Russian-Turkish war that brought freedom to Bulgaria.
Shipka is a town that has preserved its original spirit and character, and the arts and crafts skills have been passed on from generation to generation – cutlery, wood carving, sword making. Christo Yakimov embodies to his work all the special energy that creates the atmosphere of the small Balkan town.

The unusual location of the town of Shipka at the outskirts of the Balkan range, as well as the view of the nearby legendary Rose valley contribute to the unique character of the place. The magnificent shapes of the mountain are complemented by the idyllic landscape of the lavender and rose fields, to whom Bulgaria owes its century old fame as the land of rose oil.

A site of great historical interest near the town of Shipka are the ancient Thracian burial mounds, dating from the V-IV c.BC. Here the archeologists discovered a number of extremely valuable objects of the fine arts. In the area “Svetitzata” was found the burrial mask of King Teres, and in the burrial mound “Goljama Kosmatka” the archeologists came upon the bronze head of king Sevt II. Further interesting archeological sites are the mounds “Helvetzia” and “Ostrusha”.
The Land – inspiring with its history, culture and tradition to this day gives life to the heirs of the Thracian fine arts.
